ANGELCORPSE is a new band which formed after the demise of the cult band ORDER FROM CHAOS. Since the release of their first demo, ANGELCORPSE have been signed to Osmose Productions and have gone on an extensive European tour. Here's an interview with these new gods...
How did the tour with IMPALED NAZARENE go? Where were the best shows? What was your favorite city?
- Ha! Actually, I just spoke to Herve and it appears that the tour was the first worst for Osmose! The tour was at a weird time, and IMPALED NAZARENE had already toured recently prior to the «Nuclear Tour». Our album had only been out for a month, as well as GEHENNAH's, so our bands we're almost complete unknowns. Because of this, ticket sales were low. Despite these facts, all the bands had some great performances. I think our best show was the one we did in Slovenia. Some of the German and Belgian shows were also great. I think the city I liked best was Brussels, Belgium. It was the only one we really got to see being we were there for three days at the end of the tour.
How
did the deal with Osmose come about? Are you happy with them?
- We originally sent our demo to
them simply seeking distribution. Herve was quite impressed with
our music and he sent a contract. Osmose is a good label that does
what a real label should do for its bands.
You have
a new guitarist, Billy (formerly of XENOMORPH). Billy is a true metal
brother! How has his addition changed the band? What new elements
does he add?
- Indeed, he fits well in the ANGELCORPSE ranks. He has ideas (many) that are different but of the same savagery that we have. And of course, the dual guitar attack live is much more killer live than only one guitar.
I assume you guys like MORBID ANGEL? What does this band's influence mean to you?
- This comparison gets incessantly tedious. It seems if any band picks the rhythm parts real fast and has chaotic solos that they are MORBID ANGEL clones. If this mentality is accepted then of course they must have taken everything they know from SLAYER, MERCYFUL FATE, and POSSESSED. It's as if no other death metal band existed. And to add also, I recently sat with Pete Sandoval and played him our CD and he liked it. He cited a few instances that sounded like something from his band. His opinion was that we shared MORBID ANGEL’s brutal savagery, but that we were much more black metal and old school sounding. But yes, aside from all that, MORBID ANGEL are one of the best at what they do, and for all those who (like myself) think 'altars' was their best, get ready to be blown away. Their next album will be fucking sick.
Where did you get the artwork for your CD?
- It is a painting done by Pieter
Brueghel. All of the other characters and symbols, and our logo was
done by our friend Joe Craig. He does all kinds of satanic, tribal
sketches and such.
What do
you think of the scene in America? Where do you think it is headed?
- I'm sick of 'frog' metal, and many bands that seem to be going for the '80s thrash seem to only be on nostalgia trips. People need to understand that this music must not only be dark, but savage and brutal as well. There must be pain within the music, not suffering pain, however, the sound of bitter endurance and might!
Favorite
bands / albums?
- POSSESSED «Seven Churches», all CELTIC FROST / HELLHAMMER, DARK ANGEL «Darkness Descends», KREATOR «Pleasure To Kill» and what a surprise, MORBID ANGEL «Altars Of Madness».
- The most infamous, chaotic brutality we can possibly create! The most abominable metal ever!
Final blasphemies?
- You will be exterminated!
