Greetings! If you wouldn't mind, tell me (as well as our readers) few words of your band’s history…
- Hello! BESEECH was found in 1992 and in 1993 we released our first demo "A Lesser Kind Of Evil", in 1994 we released our second one and the music on that one was more calmer than on "A Lesser..." but in the vein of BESEECH, atmospheric. Our final demo "Tears" was the one we found ourselves, we created a more experimental way to create music with female vocals and classical instruments such as cello and violin. We got some offers from some labels and signed to We Bite / Corrosion Rec. In 1996 we recorded our debut CD "... From A Bleeding Heart" but our label couldn't release it, for almost 2 years - pretty frustrating... We broke the contract with them and signed to the famous Metal Blade Records. They released it in June 1998 and there are we now. Unfortunally our singer left the band recently and we now searching for a new one...
You're almost a ‘soccer team’! Isn't it hard to create songs having ten members in the band? (I mean, there may be some quarrels because of that…)
- Not really, it's me and Klas who create the songs but then we all arrange it together. It's mighty to almost have a big assamble...
Are
there any session musicians in BESEECH or all of you appear as permanent
members of the band?
- We use some session members when we record our stuff but of course it would be great to have permanent ones and I think we gone have that in a near future. But it's hard to fit the chemistry in a band but it's of course harder if you are a bigger one.
How many
gigs per year do you perform? What about public's reaction?
- This year
we played only 2 times I think... But we have played for about 50 gigs
over the years, most local ones. It's BESEECH strength to play live and
I know that the audience think that too, we create a atmospheric and good
feeling in the air... Now we working on a liveshow that we hope will be
appriciated of the audience.
What kind of inspiration (social life, dreams, fears, food, drinks, drugs, etc.) haunts you while you’re composing the stuff for BESEECH?
- For me I live in a pretty gothic apartment in the middle of Bor?s (Near Gothenburg) and it's an old building that gives me much inspiration to create something. Food and alcohol doesn't really inspirate me but I love it, I would never do a song called “Meetballs” or “Vodka Rush”.... My dreams gives me some inspiration if it's something worth writing about, the newer songs is lyric ways more about dreams and death.
"...
From A Bleeding Heart" strikes as very impressive and ‘well-crafted’ release;
therefore - do you have any kind of musical education?
- No members in BESEECH have musical education but all the session musicians that play violin, cello, piano, flute and the female singer Anna Andersson have that. But I think our instruments it's easier to learn like guitar and drums etc.
Is there anyone of you who could be named as the mastermind behind the band?
- As I said above it's me (Robert) that create the music and keep the band together, for the next album it completely will be me and him, but we'll see what kind of singer we get to BESEECH, do you know the one?? (yes! Me! – ED) hehe.... But all in the band have the equal right and that's important for a band, I forgot to say that our keyboardplayer that joined BESEECH is also making music with me and Klas...
What bands do you listen to? Can you name us few favourites of yours?
- Hard to say I like bands from BABYLON ZOO, R.E.M, DEPECHE MODE, THE DOORS (pop / rock) to MORBID ANGEL or DEATH and classical music so it's hard to say. But now I'm into a phase of movie composers like John Williams and Danny Elfmann etc...
It seems to me that your singer’s voice belongs to the guy who is 30 years old or so – am I right? What is your age? Would you mind telling me of your way through life (I mean, career, education, job)?
- He isn't with the band now because of personal problems but he was the oldest that's right but he was... hm..... about 27 years old. My age is 23 and I have a computer education and work as infomation chief / marketing on Internet on a clothing company. I also next week going to start a own firm, and there I will work as a Internet consult. That's my life beside the music, but the music will always be number one for me.
What
bands are you in contact with? And what is your opinion of Swedish scene?
What do you think of other Scandinavian countries’ scenes (I mean Norwegian,
Danish, Finnish ones)?
- There’re
a lot of bands I know such as SUNDOWN and LAKE OF TEARS that live in the
same town. But other bands are ETERNAL AUTUMN, EMBRACED, DISSECTION, ANATA
and many more... I personally think the Swedish underground scene is the
best in the world to be honest, but the countries around that you mentioned
have good bands but not as many as Sweden. I must also amdmit that I lost
little of underground contacts because of the label struggle and kind of
mess. It was a tie when we thought we gone split the band.......
There're
some relatives in your band (Andersson family, etc.)… Does it help you
in your life as well as in creating process?
- Our keyboard
player is "Andersson", hehe. But there's no relatives now in the band but
the singer and the old drummer were brothers.
Did any of you play in any band before joining BESEECH?
- Some played in smaller bands, but now we all play in different sideprojects, I play in a band that I done all the music called FEAR OF LIGHT a band that play some kind of 60th / 70th horror music with a touch of BLACK SABBATH and CATHEDRAL influences..... We recorded a demo CD but we'll see what happens with that. Actually today I’m gone to see Klas in BESSECH Beseech sideproject perform live and they are called ENETRPRISE.
Did
you ever listened to any of Russian bands? What's your opinion of the stuff
you've heard?
- Actually
I never heard really a Russian band but I would do if I had a demo....
how is the scene there?? (not bad, thank you - ED) Pretty interesting to
know...
