The title of your band, EVOL, is very much a mystery.  Is it another way to say 'evil', or to spell 'love' backwards?  What is the underlying meaning of your moniker?

- Well, EVOL represents the Black Principle of Existence, that part of the Whole who works to subtract, to destroy, to erase Reality. The Black Principle is opposed to LOVE, the Source of Light, the Force who works to add, to build, to unify the Reality.
 
Why do the medieval times fascinate EVOL so much?

- We are very fascinated by the past periods of History, 'cause we feel that the past was closer to Truth, to our origins. Middle Ages were a very dark period of Hisory, and society was very well divided into classes. This was a positive thing; now, it's the opposite, democracy has ruined the true meaning of the individual essences, we are ruled by the ignorant people and the noble souls are banished.

How important is the image of your band in continuity with the music?

- Image is a part of our work. Music, lyrics and images are all part of the Whole.  Every aspect helps the listener to understand better what we want to convey.

What separates the sound of EVOL from most other black metal bands in the genre today?

- Well, we play a very particular kind of music, with a lot of influences from ancient music, but also from heavy metal and thrash. I can say that we are quite original, 'cause we are able to mix toghether different styles of music, creating a very strange melange of emotions.

One cannot resist the medieval atmosphere that is portrayed within EVOL, both in music and in look.  What has influenced this side of EVOL?  Are you involved in the gothic and darkwave scenes at all?  What kinds of bands influence the members of EVOL?

- We listen to different kinds of music, from classical music to black metal. It is difficult to indicate a particular source of inspiration. Anyway, I can say that CELTIC FROST has some role in our creations.

Why the addition of Princess Of Disease?  How has her role in the band affected your sound?

- She is an essential part of EVOL. Her voice is a unique element in our music. Everyone who listened to our albums was charmed by the tone of her chant. She brings mistery in our sound.
 
Has EVOL ever played live?  I am curious to know what goes on during your set. 

- We play live, but not very often. We are very busy with our personal lives, so we do not have time for touring. Our concerts are very dark, with our cloths, make-up and my mask. The concert is a moment where we are very close to our listeners. The quality is in some ways, worse than the CDs, but the atmosphere is for sure very much evocative and scary.

Are you happy with the way Adipocere has treated EVOL thus far?  Are there any kinds of special plans for EVOL in the near future?

- We are satisfied with the work of Adipocere Records. They have very good productions, a quite well distribution and they let us free to create our music, without any influences. We get along very well with them. In July we will record our new CD, always for Adipocere Records, and I think it will be out for the end of 1997. The new songs are awesome, and if you don't believe me, wait and see...
