all the readers of your magazine; here from the Inca’s Land come Martin
editor of Explosion Cerebral zine with a fast view of the Peruvian scene
and life here in Peru like a little part of the world. Well, let’s go:
If we must
talk about a musical scene we must go to the 70’s years with some rock
and roll bands, but to the began of 80’s the underground scene has become
reality. In the 80’s borned punk, hardcore and metal bands. The most important
punk band in this epoque was LEUZEMIA one of the first bands, another punk
bands were NARCOSIS, EUTANASIA (not only a punk band also a political group
with simposiums and other acts), EXODO (punk-rock’n’roll band in the 1989
/ 90 they was named COMBUSTIBLE in the same music line), FRENTE NEGRO,
CONFLICTO SOCIAL, SOCIEDAD ANONIMA, LOS INDESEABLES, DELIRIOS KRONICOS,
SOCIEDAD DE MIERDA, FLEMA ROCK, PANICO, EXCOMULGADOS, ERUCTO MALDONADO,
KAOS, SE BUSCA, VOZ PROPIA, ZCUELA CERRADA, EXILIO, TRANSPARENTED, RADIKALES;
that in the year of ‘85 in the best time to the punk scene they recorded
a demo title the “Demo Of 13” with the most cruelties punk bands. To the
end of the 80’s and beginning of 90’s lots of the punk guys dissapeared
or simply changed their musical style and now they are playing commercial
music. But also in the 90’s borned some interesting punk bands like: TKCH,
ANTI (still we don’t know if they were punk or punk metal, interesting
proposing like idea and like music), KRFG, PATEANDO TU KARA, DESCONTROL,
KOMPLOT, PSICOSIS (now they are playing ska), AUTONOMIA, DESASTRE SOCIAL,
LOS REHENES, KLAUSTRO, MALA FE, GRITOS DE JUVENTUD, ANMISTIA POLITICA,
and so on. But now the punk scene is dying, I really hope that our punk
scene changed to a best work, we need more rebels in the street.
About our
hardcore scene has some of the same history: in the 80’s we had a great
band called AUTOPSIA (Later called G-3), G-3 ( they recorded a demo called
“Ün Nuevo Enemigo”, after it they changed their style to thrash metal
and released a demo called “En Llamas” and now they are playing a mixture
of grunge with metal!?), ATAQUE FRONTAL (they recorded an EP in the french
label New Wave that was the demo recorded here in Peru), DR. HARDCORE,
DESARME; and in the end of 80’s –90’s the most known bands was / are REAXION,
MENTIRAS HERMANAS, RADIO CRIMINAL, CONTRACORRIENTE, FUERZA POSITIVA, PDI,
ENEMIGO PUBLICO, SENTIDO COMUN, ELLOS AUN VIVEN, AUTOGOBIERNO and no more.
The situation is that the hardcore scene is falling ‘coz a lot of hardcore
bands are of people with money and they have in their concerts a mixture
of grunge bands and change a lot of their cause.
One of the
most common problems in the Peruvian scene is that the people change very
fast of idea or style. In the 80’s borned a lot of bands into the VENOM
style. When the bay area was in boom all the bands were sound like a thrashcore
with a bit of death metal. So appears the Swedish death metal scene and
all the bands were playing ENTOMBED / SUFFER sound. And the last when happened
all the cases in Norway here appears a lot of black metal guys saying that
they was the most cruelty black poep in the world, making inner circles
or trying to kill each other (never happened nothing). Also a lot of this
bands exist only sometime and after this time they died and also the guys
dissapear of the scene. Between the most known metal bands were HASTUR
(they released a demo called “Satanic Nun”) but after this demo they split
up. Another ancient band and now the most known in Europe is MORTEM (they
began in ‘86 and after 4 demos they recorded their “Demon Tales” CD with
the German Merciless Records), HADEZ (since the same ‘86 they recorded
their CD “Aquelarre” after it they split up and now they are back), SEPULCRO
(one of the best power metal band, after 2 demos they changed to a style
more complicated and they split up), KRANIUM (also since the same year
they still exist with their great demo “Dos Sonrisas Una Lagrima”; excellent
production), ARMAGEDDON (great heavy metal from 80’s now they split up),
ORGUS (a band that was in the vein of commercial heavy metal), MASSACRE
(was one of the first heavy metal bands), ALMAS INMORTALES, JERUSALEM,
MORTUORIO, PENITENCIA (one of the best death metal band here in Peru in
the all vein of SEPULTURA (old) and all the Brazilian acts from the 80’s,
sorry they split up in the ‘88). In this time borned and youth metal association
that was named “La Horda Metalica” = “The Metallic Horde”. The idea of
this association was to realize more concerts and to do a rupture between
punks and metals. Yes this association was the begginer of a lot of fights
between them. After a few time (no more of two years) this Horde died ‘coz
the head of it was taken but a guy that only saw in this a bussines (he
still live in the scene and its name Pino, this guy sell all ‘coz he say
that he lives of it) and all the people into it leave the association to
seek other points, but never find nothing like that... The unique error
of this Horde to search the fight enter punks and metals.
To the years
90’s we have a more bigger scene but with the same problems, to realize
concerts, distribution of Peruvian stuff out of Peru, fanzines not really
great between us, people that only want your material and not to support
your work neither the scene. When we have had the time with violence lia
a product of the stupid terrorism the only scene (for say something) that
have a very strong point of view was the punk one. They sometime had some
fights with the bunch of terrorism that was infilters in the scene. The
metal scene said: “To think about the social problems are the punks and
hardcores”.
But in that
years me (Explosion Cerebral zine) with other editors (Termonuclear, Derrame
Cerebral, and Asco) formed the AFA (Asociacion de Fanzines Alternativos
= Alternative Fanzines Asociation) to realize some concerts and to put
articles in our zines to fight against the terrosism and the fascism of
our goverment that in these years wanted to control to the people like
cows under the excuse that they wanted to control to the terrorism. Now
we have other shit in the goverment like is the shit of Fujimori a man
who wants to be in the goverment for all the yaers (now have 10 years in
the power). Also their people in the congress they have ned a referendum
to say stop to the madness. And like ever the metal scene say nothing,
but well what can I do now if a lot of people that was with me in the AFA
now they don’t belong to nothing less to the scene. In that years appear
a lot of bands like NECROPSIA, TRAUMA, ESTRELLA NEGRA, COPROFAGIA, INRI,
INEXTREMIS, NECROFUCKER, SPASM, ANAL VOMIT, MORTALA, NEUROPARALYA, OPCION,
DIABOLICA, ABERRACION, CURRICULUM MORTIS, MORBID CADAVER, SUPPLICIUM, PANDEMONIUM,
ASTAROTH, PUTERFACTO, RITUAL, POST MORTAL, FERETRO, FOSA COMUN, CRIMINAL
INSANE, DARKEN, DISINTER, DICTADURA DE CONCIENCIA, ATROFIA CEREBRAL, MATERIA
ORGANICA, SENTENCIA, ESPERPENTO, ESTIGMA, ESTALLIDO, INSENSIBILIDAD ENERGETICA,
CADAVER INCUBATOR, SITUACION HOSTIL, SNA, SARAM SCIVIT, SANTUARIO, BLAST,
PSICORRAGIA, ENGORGED PUSSY, ANFO, INFERNAL, LAMENT CHRIST, SARCOMA, IMPALEMENT,
HECROPHAGA, EN LAS ESPEASA NIEBLAS, GOLGOTA, AUTODESTRUCCION, EPILEPSIA,
ELEKTRASH, AUDICION IRRITABLE, REQUIEM, AKRATEIA, BLACK ANGEL, CONFUSION
and a bit more. About fanzines in all our scene and the most importat to
me was Headbanger (death / black metal zine really great: years 1985-88),
Termonuclear (anarcozine with all the styles: years 1987-91) and DeathCross
(only an issue but that rules in the death scene I think that was in the
year ‘88). After these zines borned a lot of zine like Butchey, ProMurder,
THCP, Under Metal, Esquina, Asco, Aberracion, Grito De Protesta, Combatiendo,
Yo Odio, Corrosion, Sarcasm, Suppurated Infection, Derrame Cerebral, Leviathan,
Concientizacion Oportuna, Infernal Noise, Guttural Breath, Calvario, Hemorragia,
Infected Voice, Mutilator, Black Slaughter, and Ataque Metal. All these
are dead and the only that I cansay that are true are Explosion Cerebral
(sorry the mine), Temple of The Damned, Maleficarium, Testament, Cuero
Negro (this zine is a mixture between all that sell and a bit underground
not a good zine), and... and no more, sorry but our scene has a lot of
financial problems like our economical country. All the prices to do a
zine is so high and we search a lot of ways to do this more cheap that
ever we can. In the year 1994-95 we have the visit of two bands IMMOLATION:
one of the best concerts even do and DISMEMBER a concert with not a great
response.
Now some of
the actual bands that are in current work are:
- EN LAS
ESPESAS NIEBLAS: Doom metal band in the vein of ANATHEMA.
- LAMENT
CHRIST: A rare mixture between doom and black metal, really a cool banb.
- BLACK ANGEL:
Only black metal not so professional but very cruel.
- CADAVER
INCUBATOR: Old grindnoise.
- ANAL VOMIT:
Death metal in the vein of CANNIBAL CORPSE.
- DISINTER:
Doom metal like BEYOND DAWN.
- KRANIUM:
Great ancient band in the same vein that their ancient days but more professional.
- MORTEM:
We must say new from them? Ever an occult band.
- ESTIGMA:
Band that only exist to play in bussiness market. To me (my personal point
of view) is a bad band.
- SARCOMA:
great detah metal with a lot of South-American touches.
These are the most important bands to me and I think that also they are working so hard to have a place in the scene. To explain a bit more my scene: all the guys in it, have a lot of years in it (for example I am since 1987) and in the last years we have new guys in the scene that is good to us to see grow our scene. The only matter is that this guy want to have a “Name” in the under like us that we are working for years. Well these guys try to do some (all rip offs) to get stuff and so they can say that they are someone in the underscene. This matter exist a lot of time ago and I think that our scene must have more time in the world to get the rigths persons to work more professional and at least to have a scene like Brazil that here in South America is one of the best. Chile sometime ago was the second more important scene in South America, but now have a bit problem (I think that not like us) in their scene. If I must recommend you a scene here in South America, I must say you: Peru (‘coz is my scene), Brazil and Colombia. The rest of countries have good scenes but I think that they are beginning. Check also the scenes of Chile, Argentina, Ecuador and Paraguay.
Well, my friends this is a small Scene Report that I tried to put all that happened in my scene in all the years of existence. But I think that is to small to say all about our work.
