This gig was
total shit. Why? Well, mostly because of the club it took place in. “Baltica”
is the kind of club destined only for ‘major’ parties and money bags’ spare
time. Therefore, it’s obvious that organization sucked (almost no promotion
at all), fans were in a very little number (about 20 (!!!) people), beer
costs were definitely insane, while security really enraged me as well
as all others who came to “Baltica” that evening. How do you like the kind
of security which exerted every effort to unleash he fight against those
who played there??? So, FUCK BALTICA! Listen to my advice and
never even think about going there… it’s not for metalheads…
Now about
the gig itself.
Well, as
always I missed the first band (I was too angry because of the security’s
behaviour, to go inside the hall and listen to music carefully enough),
hence I can’t really say what ANNO DOMINI are about… The next ones were
NORDREAM, and I liked this act somehow. They performed sort of a cross
between black and death metal with keyboards, and despite that they looked
like utter morons on the stage, their stuff impressed me in quite a positive
way. They aren’t too original of course, but enough technical and clever
to make their creations sound exciting…
Right after
them there were DREAMING SOUL, well-known Moscow’s band playing atmospheric
and tremendous dark / doom / black metal with lots of “clean” vocals and
lyrics impregnated with paganism. I know this band very good, and I don’t
have any doubts in their sincerity. Just like NORDREAM’s, DREAMING SOUL’s
performance was great, maybe thanks to quite good sound. There were some
drawbacks, for example, Alexander (the mastermind behind this band) sang
out-of-key when using “clean” voice, but anyway, it wasn’t too irritating,
moreover – it even sounded pleasant for ears (what an absurd, eh?)!
STONEHENGE
also don’t need to be introduced, I believe. They played enough songs,
but none of them was taken from “Victims Gallery”, their first album, and
also my favorite one. Quite sad, I’d say, although in spite of this, I
liked them that evening (by the way, it was the first band which gathered
ALL people in the hall during their performance; the other ones (even DREAMING
SOUL) were supported by only few fans). 90% of the tracks they played were
taken from “Tales Of Old Britain” album, but they also presented some new
ones, also in the vein of “Tales…” which will be included in their fourth
output.
Strange,
but BUTTERFLY TEMPLE didn’t take part in the gig due to some unknown reasons…
The only band who were clever enough to ignore “Baltica”…
Once again
I should say – the sound was good and all bands left extremely positive
impressions, however, because of the club, the negative ones unfortunately
prevailed…
P.S. By the
way, I can’t get into one thing… Why “Alien party”? Did they mean “metalheads
in the alien club, among the alien people”, i.e. something like “stranger
in the strangers land”??
