CRADLE OF FILTH live in Moscow
(MDM, 11th of September 1998)

Support: DEMONS OF GUILLOTINE

One more (almost) legendary metal band and one more greatest disappointment… PARADISE LOST were the first ones who wimped out and performed a shitty gig in Moscow, and now CRADLE OF FILTH took their turn...
First of all, it was strange to see them at MDM, a cult place of Moscow’s ravers... Secondly, the supporting band is one of the most shitty in Russia, representing so-called 'trend' in it's 100% purity. I guess, you already understood that their music also doesn’t worth your attention – it is simply uninteresting, lacking any emotions and sincerity...
Ok, let’s get back to the 11th of November and talk about that gig.
It was really strange to see that illumination isn’t very impressive, as well as to hear that sound sucks due to the shitty equipment. When CRADLE OF FILTH appeared on the stage, a lot of fans were already kicked out of MDM being drunk as fuck, others – for making attempts to kick someone’s ass, however still there were enough people who came just to see those ‘legendary’ England’s vampires and become ecstatic of their show.... Well, I must admit that majority of such individuals (including me) were extremely disappointed since THERE WAS NO SHOW. ‘Cradles’ just came on the stage and began to play their stuff - nothing more, nothing less. Dani often tried to sing in a “clean” voice (very high-pitched, by the way), but he’d better didn’t do this since he couldn’t sing normally and did it out-of-key. Besides, his famous ‘declamations’ which were delivered in a baritone voice on the CDs, just made me laugh due to Dani’s woman-alike real voice... The guitars' sound was awful – it reminded me of neophyte Russian bands with a lineup of 14-year old kids who can’t even handle their instruments properly. Drummer was the only one who really pleased me. His performance was excellent live (as you probably know, all Cradle’s albums (except “The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh”) feature programmed drumset); and also I have to mention that Nicholas possesses more than just memorable appearance, heh heh! When in the end he came out of the drum-kit, everybody could see the man wearing the corpse-paint and those famous lenses, a fucking fat man, I should say! Too much money and, therefore, too much beer, I guess? Anyway, he doesn’t look like a 19-year old skinhead anymore, heh heh... Remember Felix from CREMATORY? So Felix is Nicholas in a miniature… Why am I talking about that so much? Hmm, I don’t know. Perhaps, it was the most interesting thing at that gig... The last thing I remember was Nicholas throwing t-shirts with ‘Cradle Of Filth are cunts’ writing on them in the crowd, together with his sticks... Brrrh... The fans went crazy! They looked like they’d kill each other for that t-shirts… I never could understand this and, probably, never will.
All in all, I didn’t like that gig too much. Nothing really special at all. And it’s really sad to see CRADLE OF FILTH the way I saw them. I also can’t say anything good in regards to the guys who arranged the gig – too much pathos, insane prices and no free tickets...
That’s it. Nothing more to say. I hope if MAYHEM comes to Russia, they won’t disappoint me the way CoF and PARADISE LOST did...
