PARADISE LOST live in Moscow
on 6th of March 1998 a.t.b.b.

Support: END ZONE and GODS TOWER

I guess I’m not the only one who has waited for this concert impatiently and the reason is quite simple - PARADISE LOST, one of the best English metal bands (at least that’s what I thought before this show) finally came to Moscow in order to play only ONE gig on Friday’s night. The outcome turned out as very sad, but... later about that. I came to DK Gorbunova («cult» place of all Moscow metallers) near 18. 00, and despite that concert had to begin an hour later, there was already huge number of metalheads. Around 19. 00, together with Sergey (STONEHENGE’s guitarist and keyboardist) I entered the building. Security was in very little number and rather polite which surprised me a bit. Unfortunately, both of us missed first band - END ZONE, due to drinking beer and talking with many familiar people (f.ex. such as members of CATHARSIS and MENTAL HOME) we’ve met on the first floor... Anyway, I wasn’t upset about that, since I dislike END ZONE too much to watch their performance... Next band was GODS TOWER, so we finally went upstairs and found ourselves in the concert hall. These Belorussian pagans are also not the kind of band I support - both, «The Turns» and «The Eerie» demo’s re-release are just not my cup of tea, but I have to admit that they sound much more impressive live. The sound was quite good (without taking into account the fact that vocals were almost fucked up and drummer successfully drowned other musicians), the same goes for light. Their set was quite short - something like twenty five or thirty minutes and the best song they played that evening was «Rising Arrows», no doubts. It seems like this tune is most memorable and intriguing composition GODS TOWER have managed to create so far. After they leaved the stage, I went downstairs again. I guess, now it’s time to say that firstly it was supposed that END ZONE and GODS TOWER had to play with REGRESSUS AD INFINITUM, GORESLEEPS and GREAT SORROW, but FUCK, these English «superstars» laid down very strict conditions, so only two bands could be the support. Too bad, because if all aforementioned groups played there, this concert would be much better - at least MY IMPRESSIONS would be much better. After 25 (or so) minutes passed the building suddenly trembled with fierceful roar of fans which was followed with weird sounds of intro. I immediately ran to the hall, which was already filled with about 2000 of humans... Intro ended and PARADISE LOST with short hair-cuts (just like METALLICA, heh heh) appeared on the stage. The sound was thousand times mightier (my ears even became stuffed up for a while) than during GODS TOWER’s performance - as well as illumination. Majority of songs they performed were taken off the «One Second» album, and the only «early» song which could be heard that evening was «As I Die» - but the thing is that I left the hall long before the show was over... I expected something very different from what I’ve saw... You see, I went to see PARADISE LOST, but got DEPECHE MODE instead. But ok, even not paying attention to contemporary PARADISE LOST’s faggot attitude and pop-metal music, I cannot ignore the fact that they played with a... phonogram, therefore it strikes like only vocals were REAL... Yeah, that’s really disgusting. Of course, most of fans went crazy right after they saw PARADISE LOST on stage, but 99% of them were young chicks and brainless kids, deifying their regular idols, which explains everything. You know, I even prepared some questions for Nick Holmes and co. and was about going sightseeing with them next morning in order to ask those questions, which I wanted to feature in this issue of VAE SOLIS, but after that ‘show’ I changed my opinion... Personally I consider two more hours of sleep better than association with those wimps. Surely, no-one of bandmembers cares about Moscow fans’ opinion - they got their 10000$ and left for another country, leaving many, many people who formerly were into PARADISE LOST utterly disappointed.
