ROMANTICISM AND MISANTHROPY

(by Kai Mathias Stalhammar)

Who is romantic? An individual, craving for harmony and perfection, disclaiming horrors and hopelessness of this disgusting world, who finds his salvation in dreams which appear as the gates to the Kingdom of Utopia for him... It’s worth to add that such kind of people are liable to depression and quite often use hard drugs as a way to escape the loathsome reality, surrounding them.
Who is misanthrope? The man who hates people, i.e. the ones similar to him. Sounds paradoxical, eh? But there’s quite big number of such individuals. Partly their hate can be explained; they hate Man for all that He have done to the world, for his Evil and cruelty geared towards Nature and this is natural. Here I can agree with them. But how can you be a misanthrope and adore somebody’s writings, films or music?... How can you associate with anybody?... Even such outstanding persons as Nietzsche and Grieg were homo sapiens - strange, eh? And all misanthropes are the same people as others which means that they must hate themselves also, but there's nothing like that! You know, it looks like they consider themselves as some kind of «supreme beings»... Extremely childish and stupid.

Romantic is a melancholic person and it stands for his weakness. Depression and melancholy weaken our minds, make it helpless before the problems and misfortunes coming from beyond, and as a result - push us to death, e.g. «relief». Maybe it’s a relief for some, but in order to accept death without resisting it, you must have really weighty reasons. Love it too worthless to die because of it. Loss of nearest and dearest? Yes, it hurts. But it’s a resistance one has to overcome. And if you can’t endure even this, the world doesn’t need you. Anyway, earlier or later, you will die by even more ignominious death. Romantic natures are not accomodated to this world, they’re too vulnerable and... absolutely useless. Such individuals should die - at least, nobody will regret this loss. Using drugs (in order to cognize so-called «supreme knowledge»), living in dreams and reveries - this is a way of life, which makes us to reject reality, telling us: «Stop struggling for survival... Come to me, I’m your old friend Heroin (or Dream)! Offer no resistence to me, don’t care for material values...» Those who choose this path seem to forget that Struggle For Survival is the ultimate law of animal and human worlds!!!! Refusing to stand up against evil, to stand up against anything, to find any way for leaving this reality - it’s a christian path, path of the weak and yurodivies who should be perished! You can adore Nature and call that romanticism; I would understand and accept this. But running away from the Real World, stop fighting for the right to live and reject a chance to overcome resistences at any value - it’s abominable, basely, disgusting. It’s something not for the real Men, but cowardly pederastians!
And misanthropy looks almost like a nonsence in my eyes. I already said that one cannot hate humans simply because he appears as similar to them. How can this person have friends, or be involved in some kind of business with anybody, how can he have anything in common with mankind? Misanthrope is a man, whose heart is filled with boundless hatred. And it’s impossible to live with only this feeling left. No-one can exist with innerself, occupied with only love or hate. These two feelings have to be mutually complementary without contradicting each other, therefore (theoretically) one can be both romantic and misanthrope without being any of them.
And perhaps I appear as such person. I consider humanity as the most loathsome Nature’s spawn and become horrified beholding our deeds. Human life is OF NO VALUE to me (with an exception for me, my friends and relatives); man had never brought anything good to anyone. Only to himself. And what have he done with his mother, Earth? He destroys Her! Destroys with depraved pleasure, obsessed with sanity thinking that he is the Greatest lifeform in the whole Universe! Well, I don’t know what about you, but personally I think that we’re complete nonentities comparing to animals, inhabiting our planet! («Ecofascist»? That’s how you call me? Then who are you...?!) Many people call them as «lowest creatures», while homo sapiens is «crown of evolution»! Let me laugh on these pathetic words... Yes, we possess the mind and ability to think, however it hides our perdition. Instead of making Earth (and, consequently, our lives) better, we create nuclear weapons and H-bombs. We spend huge money on «conquering Space», while thousands of people turn to paupers... No, it doesn’t mean that I sympathize with them. It would be extreme hypocrisy. I just think that if man works and earns money he has to RECEIVE them, right?
I repeat once more - war is our necessity, but we could manage without it! The strong survives and if these words became our law, many things would change... Recall ancient Sparta. Weak, ill and deranged babies were killed right after birth - and it was very wise decision. Why should we give the right to live to those, who besides being absolutely useless, will live the lives filled with sorrow and everlasting humiliation... Who needs this? Us?! Them?! Leaving them alive, we accomplish horrinle cruelty. If we got rid  of such worthless feelings as charity and compassion, we would also get rid of many useless, weak «people». Then we wouldn’t behold the problem of overpopulation. However, there were many other reasons for starting various wars - in order to conquer new lands (yes, our greed sees no limits... - now we need Cosmos!), because of Religion and Vanity and unfortunately we can’t get rid of this... Hence war is inescapable for us.
We invent viruses, weapons which possess inconceivable strength, but despite this, leave the mask of humanism on our rotting faces... We feel sorry for poor criminals, abrogate capital punishment and as a result - murderers and violators escape death and become free... Bastards, who taunted and jeered at our children... Of course, we’re so kind, therefore we pay enormous taxes while killers will enjoy their unavailing lives in prison at our expense!
My emotions are silent when I see someone’s dying (especially when I’m not familiar with the victim). Watching TV and beholding the regular war I realize that there’s nothing good in it, however I can’t change the fact that I’m totally indifferent to human life.

This is what goes for my man-hating side.
    But there’s another one.
So-called romantic side of my nature. First of all, romanticism (in my interpretation) consists in adoring everything that surrounds us, e.g. Mother Nature. I spend a lot of time in the open air, wandering the woods near my home for eternity, listening to voices of the trees, language of birds and rustle of leafage, trying to realize Nature’s grandeur. Nothing created by human hands can provoke such feelings inside of me. I admire with rivers, forests, water, trees, snow, fallen leaves, green foliage, nightly darkness and light of the day, watching the life of animals, delighted with their Purity...
But I’m not romantic, since I never undertook (and never will) attempts to run away from reality - instead of this, I fight with it, spending all my inner strength and sources to reach the final goal. I’m not misanthrope because of my human nature; I associate with others in the same time being inclined against mankind in the whole.

Romanticism and misanthropy should exist in each of us on equal rights, although none of us can't be neither romantic,
nor misanthrope.
