BELPHEGOR is no more a neophyte act, isn’t it? What about sharing the most significant recollections you’ve gained so far, with us?
- BELPHEGOR started out in '91 with the intention to create some of the most extreme and blasphemous music possible. We recorded three albums namely "The Last Supper" (1994), "Blutsabbath" (1997) and "Necrodaemon Terrorsathan" (1999). We played a successful European tour with ANCIENT and BEHEMOTH in '98, we did numerous single gigs and were also opening for bands like MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, MARDUK, BOLT THROWER, VADER, IMMORTAL, ANGEL CORPSE, etc, etc. at their concerts here in Austria. We were headlining the Last Episode festivals in Germany recently, and are currently working on new material for our following album which is gonna be recorded in Fall right after our European tour is finished (BELPHEGOR's bio wasn't really what I wanted to hear... :( - ED).
You’ve
been previously signed to Lethal Records, rather a bunch of idiots than
a serious label, at least that’s what rumors say. Would you like to make
any comments regarding your collaboration with Michael and co.?
- We signed a deal for one album in '94 and were treated fairly. Don't give a fuck about the other bands being ripped off allegedly, as they probably were too stupid to understand that they had to sell a certain amount of their mediocre CDs (which they didn't) to make some money.
Don’t you think that the subjects you’re broaching in the lyrics of yours, appear as too hackneyed ones? Satan, darkness, inverted crosses and stuff, y’know.
- We've never had any childish "Evil + darkness" lyrics and only one text about the (of course fictional) coming of the Antikrist, namely "Necrodaemon". Our lyrics deal with a.o. the profound desecration of worthless religions, sex, sodomy and sadism in all obnoxious forms, the hypocrisy of christianity - e.g. - orgies in convents / possession - as a result of sexual repression, the fucking inquisition, ritualmurder, necrophilia, etc. I don't give a shit if our lyrics sound cliche to some pseudo intellectual homos; they just have to fit the violent soundpicture and besides; what kind of lyrics would you like to read from a band totally dedicated to the most brutal music form there is??
What’s your opinion on satanic movements of all kinds? Aren’t you the ones who can be easily reckoned to one of these movements’ advocates? If “yes”, why so? Looks like you still can’t understand that christianity and satanism appear as Siamese twins; if one of them ceased to exist, another one will follow it shortly after…
- First off, if you look upon Satanism as a fucking religion, you can crawl in front of idiotic Jesus images in those stinking churches as well. To me the main idea behind Satanism is to free the individual from the god's tyranny. One must strive towards the personal godhood and leave behind EVERY kind of worship - including christian scum and devil worship. Satanism is not inverted christianity - christianity (a death cult) is inverted nature. Looks like you still can't understand that the concept of Satan doesn't come from the fucking bible. It has many pre-christian pagan roots; in one of them it means 'adversary'. Not only the adversary of christianity, but of all revelling creeds which stifle human biological and cultural ascent, be they religious, moral or philosophical.
Let me refer to the rumors surrounding BELPHEGOR for one more (last!) time. Judging by what has been said regarding the band of yours, it strikes as you’ve been accused in being nazis, huh? What’s your attitude to nazism and it’s adherers? Nazism and heathendom often seem to be inalienable parts of the whole, however the reasons still seem to stay quite unclear. Wouldn’t you like to make a comment on what has been said above?
- If those cocksuckers - spreading rumors about us - only had the courage to express themselves to our goddamn faces we'd beat the living shit out of everyone of them. We ain't interested in politics at all and we hate both left + right-winged extremists but since we're from Austria we simply have to be nazis... Certain people mistake patriotism for fascism (right - ED)... Unline Germany and France we don't have braindead nazi scum marching in our streets, we don't have immigrants - wherever they may come from - being beaten to death by baldheaded retarted morons; so these countries should put their own houses in order first.
“Necrodaemon…”
features undoubtedly killer drumming, however I still doubt if it was a
living creature behind the drumkit…??????????
- What the fuck???? I can understand that people likened the drumsound on "Blutsabbath" to a fucking drummachine - but the new one?? Are you stoned or what?? (too sober, perhaps - ED) Since we're performing live constantly, why the hell should we use a goddamn drumcomputer in the studio??
Seems like BELPHEGOR is more a death than black metal band nowadays?
- We've always been a death metal band with BM influences and not vice versa. We don't feel that challenged by playing black metal only, it's just too limited.
How did you come to enter Last Episode’s roster?
- They offered us a deal with o.k. conditions in '97 which we signed as we were granted completely artistic freedom - which is most important for BELPHEGOR. They've done a good job, still things always can improve.
Black metal underground’s community is no more now, don’t you think so? However, as a matter of fact, it never really appeared as a true community… Jealousy and envy, lotsa ambitions and stuff. What’s your opinion on this subject?
- I quite agree. We've never been a part of this childish community as this is just another form of herd mentality which I despise. We might be a part of the death / black metal scene but that's it; we're just doing our thing and wanna be left alone.
Is BELPHEGOR a kind of band still staying true to the underground? By the way, what is underground the way we behold it nowadays, to you?
- With our music that extreme, we'll always stay underground. We could easily write some softer shit which might appeal to a wider audience, but that never wasn't our intention anyway. Whereas most other bands tend to wimp out after 2 - 3 albums, we'll always increase both the aggressiveness and ferocity on each new record to only fulfill our musical demands.
If you were to cover a certain band’s tune, which one would you choose and why? Is there a particular song you could possibly mark out as “the song of your lives”? What do you think of the possibility of recording an album solely consisting of cover versions? What’s your opinion concerning tribute CDs in general? Do you have a fave amongst a great variety of this pseudo-homage endeavors?
- We covered "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and "Outbreak Of Evil" a while back, but that wasn't my decision. I'm of the opinion that a band with an own identity doesn't need any fucking cover tunes in the repertoire - be it studio or live. If I was forced to do a cover it probably would be something by POSSESSED, VENOM, SLAYER or maybe HOLY TERROR; bands that I've grown up with; but what's the point when every fucking band is doing it nowadays. Besides no one is able to top the feeling / intensity of the original versions, judging by the lame shit on all those superflous tribute CDs.
Have you ever heard
any christian (!) black metal act, and what’s
your attitude
to them? For example, what would you do with that HORDE
guy once you’ve
met him?
- I've actually heard of 2 well known black metal bands featuring diehard christians in their lineup, but that's just fucking rumors (again.......). If I ever meet up with these guys, I'd probably have a nice chat with 'em in the backyard (what an optimist you are - ED)
Which one do you
consider to be the most splendorous black metal
scene, huh? Perhaps,
Norwegian? Swedish…? Greek…? Austrian…?
- Black metal has lost it's credibility. There's only a handful of bands left (in Sweden) that live up to the title "Black fucking metal" (DARK FUNERAL, SETHERIAL and alikes, I assume? - ED). The Norwegian scene had to offer some killer bands a few years back which changed style today into either death metal (which is funny, as they claimed death metal is boring and trendy in the early '90ties... (yep, isn't it a paradox? But that's true... - ED)), or keyboard-infected white metal / gothic bullshit, experimental sounding crap; whatsoever. Goodbye to brutality...
What
kind of man are you, and what kind of man is the one you’d obviously terminate
once you’ve seen and talked with for a while?
- I hate being surrounded by stupid and ignorant people, that's why I don't work (that's called "agarophobia", man. Or, perhaps, just a neurosis? - ED). There're loads of assholes around which don't deserve nothing more than a fucking bullet in their rotting pigsheads, but it's just not worth the effort and besides, shotgun ammunition is expensive (revealing a sense of humour? How nice it is - ED)
Have you ever endured a depression of any kind? What’s the principle difference between depression and melancholic state of mind?
- I indulge in all life's pleasures and live every day as if it was my last one (aren't you contradicting yourself...??? - ED), so direct this kind of questions to some gothic faggot bands (already done - ED) - drowning in selfpity - as I'm not concerned with this bullshit.
Do you know anything regarding Russia? Any metal bands coming from the country of mine you’ve heard lately?
- Of course, I have some basic knowledge on Russian history, and no, I haven't heard of any new bands from your country; but I'm into the music of M. Mussorgsky a lot.
A couple of blasphemies for the end…?
- "Infernal Live Orgasm" - live CD out in June 2001. Thanks for the interview!
