Band: CROWHEAD
Country of origin: Norway
Style: gothic / dark wave
Questions by: Kai Mathias Stalhammar
Answers supplied by: Jo-Inge Slangsvold (vocals and bass) and Jonas Groth (synth and programming)

Are you proud of the country you were born in? What is Norway alike
these days?

- Cold, concervative, boring, but still nice to come home after vacations abroad. I love the nature here, but the people... hhheh...

Norge is well-known as a nearly supernatural birthmachine of black
metal hordes, however it looks like you decided to embark on a different path. Why so? You were craving for something different, weren't you?

- Yeah, we've always been much more into DEPECHE MODE, CURE, SISTERS OF MERCY and stuff like that, rather than the darkest metal. we're into soft feelings rather than hard agression.

By the way; one of you comes from a black metal band. How did you contrive to make Rym become a part of CROWHEAD?

- Look at answer for question 2.

Will Jonas (the one who's responsible for synth lines and programming on "Love Letter") ever become a permanent member of CROWHEAD?

- Yes, more or less. Jonas is doing his own stuff as well as tributing with material and ideas to CROWHEAD. he's a member of CROWHEAD; yes!

Has anyone of you had any kind of vocal training? Both yours and Rym's voices sound tremendous!

- Thx! No, we've never really sung much before. Jonas (he's a vocalist in the spirit) helped out in the studio, and even changed some of the melodies to make them better for us to sing.

If I'm not mistaken, the band has been formed by Occultus (ex-MAYHEM
and PERDITION HEARSE). What caused his departure, and what is he up to now?

- Stian was NEVER a part of CROWHEAD. and what he's doing now is totally uninteresting for us. we couldn't care less as they say. And he is NOT an ex-MAYHEM member.

Why is "Love Letter" comprised of three pieces only?

- It's an 'ep'. some claim 'a single', but all three songs are equal in their way of telling stories from our hearts, so therefore; an 'ep'! for a full-length album, we assume that all three songs will be presented (maybe in different versions, though).

A year has passed since "Love Letter" was released, and an obvious question arises: don't you have a new material ready? Does it differ from what we've heard on "Love Letter"?

- Personally, we have changed, that's for sure, but the songs are still the most important issue, so the four new songs which we intend to record / release sometime in the near future are simulare to the ones released on 'love letter'. the same spirit, you's might say.

Are you going to keep on collaborating with Neodawn Productions? Is
Christoph doing a good job (promotional campaign, distributive services, etc.)?

- We don't know what will happen if / when we sign to a record label, but C. is doing an excellent job. we have only thank him for the excellent spreading of our material.

By the way, what's your opinion on his project, VINTERRIKET (especially taking into account the fact, this guys seems to get high on everything that's connected with Norway... even entitling all the tunes he comes up with, in Norwegian)?

- it's okay. really! not exactly something we'd go and buy in the stores. but seriously, it's cool!

Are there any bands in Norway similar to CROWHEAD? Anyone you consider to be your rival?

- nope!

Here's a list of most well-known Norwegian bands and their latest efforts. Please, give each a rating and explain why have you praised 'em or why have you dragged 'em into shit:

Back to CROWHEAD. What kind of ambience were you aiming to force on "Love Letter"?

- don't understand the question (oops. Seems like the time has come for you to start learning English seriously - ED).

What's your view on what mankind used to call "love"? Do you consider it a certain feeling or rather an aggregate of various sensations?

- in english, it doesn't mean anything anymore. but in every other language, it means something true, something meaningful, something to die for! not neccessarily a felling, but also a state of mind.

Finally, why "Crowhead"? That's definitely a weird-sounding moniker?

- we tried out many different names, but since joi's a hunter... (likes to cut animals heads of hahaha... just kidding). It's sorted out from various childhood / youth memories, like ex. the movie 'the crow'. Crow indians...

Do you know anything regarding Russia? Any metal bands coming from the country of mine you've heard lately?

- No sorry... Send me some stuff!!!!

Ok, no more questions for now... with an exception for banalities, like "future plans" and "final words"...

- we just wish everyone havn't lost their hope and faith in love; lost love in particular. Thank you for your support!!!!
