They came out of nowhere, released their debut album on (almost) unknown label, and the only thing which captured my attention was the
participation of Flauros (MASTIPHAL) on vocals.  However, they appear as one of the premier Polish BM acts along with such bands as BEHEMOTH, HEFEYSTOS, CHRIST AGONY and THEMGOROTH - that's what I thought after listening to their "In The Flames Of Black Art" CD... Brilliant keyboard arrangements, mayhemic atmosphere, furious male vocals and charming, though frightening female ones, great guitar work and excellent sound quality... Do you need any more reasons to read the interview featured below?

Let's begin from your band's history... (I know, this question is
exstremely boring, but it's necessary...) What was the main reason for starting DARZAMAT?

- Hmmm... I have been kicked out from my first band called MASTIPHAL. So I started to think about a new project. I asked for help Flauros and Kate and here we are.

Your debut album "In The Flames Of Black Art" was released by Faithless Productions. Can you tell me anything about this label? Did you get the needed support? How are the sales going? Did you receive offers from other labels? Why did you sign with Faithless Prod.?

- Faithless Productions is not a big label. It's a little one. It's good for starting bands such as DARZAMAT. Support? Sufficient. Sales? They told us that they sold about 2000 CDs worldwide.  Offers? Massacre, Displeased, Avantgarde. Why signed? Because we were a starting one. It was our debut.

How would you characterize your music? Do you consider it as black metal?

- It's not a black metal. "In The Flames..." was a bit BM, but a new stuff is differently.

What is the main difference between DARZAMAT and other BM bands?

- We DO NOT play BM!

What about christianity in your country? Is it really strong? Did you have any problems with christian organizations?

- 90% of citizents are christians. Half of them are mad about it. Is it really strong? No problems with organisations. Only with newspapers.

Do you have any new songs? When will you release new album? What is the main difference between "In The Flames..." and new songs?

- We have got four new songs. I hope they will be released in February next year. Songs are more syphonical. More singing than growling / screaming. Guitars sound better.

What do you think of nazi stuff in black metal? It's very strong in your country with such bands as GRAVELAND, VELES, KOHORT, etc... Your opinion about these bands and people behind them?

- I haven't got an opinion about it.

What about polish BM labels - Pagan, Astral Wings, Witching Hour...?

- Pagan is a big one. I don't know others.

What are your lyrics about? Are there any "satanic" messages? Does
satanism mean anything to you?

- I don't write lyrics. Flauros do. Anyone can interpret our lyrics
differently.  For you is a satanic lyric, for me is not.

Are you into occultism? Do you find this topic interesting? All these
bands, using occult imaginery in their lyrics and music, are they just wasting their time?

- No, I appreciate what they're doing.

Have you played live? What about leather clothes, blood, corpsepaint and other traditional BM attributes? Do you care about this? Are using any SFX's on the scene?

- No, we haven't play live yet. But we want to in the future. We didn't think about our "on the scene" image yet.

Which Polish BM bands do you appreciate and why?

- LUX OCCULTA and MASTIPHAL for good music.

I heard a lot of shit about your country-mates called TARANIS... Are they really such wimps? If the band plays good music, is its members' behavior such an important thing?

- Hmmm? I haven't heard any shit about TARANIS. What shit? Can you tell me?

What the future will bring for black metal, your opinion?

- I don't know.... death?

What do you think of people, obsessed by the topic of vampirism and
considering themselves as "vampires"? Does these creatures really exist?

- Of course they do! In movies and books.

Who are the most strong and interesting personalities in black metal, how do you think?

- I don't really know. I have never thought about it (do you ever THINK about anything?? - ED).

Tell me about your feelings regarding USA... We have a big problem here in Russia with so-called "americanization" of society... And the worst thing is, that a lot of young people think that everything "made in USA" is cool, that everything american is much better then Russian... They buy american clothes, american food, listen to american music, adore american culture (consisting in McDonalds and nigger rap), they use american (not english!) words in their speech... Why are they doing this, how do you think? Do you have the same problem in Poland?

- Yes. We've got the same. It's stupid.

I know that Flauros is also a member of MASTIPHAL... How are the things going with this band?  Is there any differences between MASTIPHAL and "MASTIPHAL from Katowice"?

- They are going to record a new stuff in December. No differences.

What country has the strongest BM scene and why?

- Norway. Why? What's a question?

Do you work (studying) anywhere, besides playing in the band?

- Yes, I study. Nothing interesting.

You also have a female vocalist, Kate... She has a nice voice, and her style is very different from other girls singing in BM bands... Who is she? Where did you find her? Does she sing (or play) in any other band?

- Somebody has recommended her fo us. We met 2 weeks before record "In The Flames...". No, she did not sing for any other bands.

You also used a lot of keyboards, and it appears as the main instrument for you, in my opinion... Do you agree? Will you use it in the future; if yes, will they sound the same (a bit computer-oriented, not orchestral...)?

- Yes, it is. We'll use it in future. They will sound more orchestral.

What do you think of BM bands, signing with major labels? Can we speak about such thing as "black metal trend", "black metal made only for money"? (I don't think so...) Is it possible to earn really big money, playing this kind of music?

- Big money from BM? Of course not !

What is your personal philosophy...? Do you believe in any kind of deity or god?

- No....  I haven't got any philosophy.

What do you think about my country? Have you ever heard any Russian metal bands?

- Your country? Russia is beautiful country. Really! But I only know it from news:
   - Jelcyn's NIET for polish NATO efforts,
   - Russian mafia kills 2 polish citizens.
Russian metal bands? Sorry, I don't know any.

Last spells?

- Thanks for an interview. Really sorry about a delay, but as you know we record a new stuff right now.  I hope you forgive me. I wish you and a "Vae Solis" big success. That's all for now, once more sorry for a delay.
Best regardzz...
