Hi, Sebastian! As far as I know, you've stopped your activities with DAWN OF DREAMS some time ago, hence let me wonder what are you up to now?

- Hi! that's NOT quite true. after markus left the band in february 1998 we didn't stop the band activities with ralph, but continued with writing new material and the search for a new label which succeded last summer ('99) in a cooperation with the polish label MORBID NOIZZ. we didn't have stress with the recordings and we?ll start them on the 10th of april 2000 and hope to be finished on the 30th of april. but first of all the record will only be released in poland only; due to the special agreement we have with MN that they own the new album for the territory of poland only - after all we want to get a western label to get it spread around the world ;)

Was it you who left Candlelight due to various reasons (still unknown to me) or on the contrary?

- after lee barrett (the former boss of candlelight and bassist of EXTREME NOISE TERROR) left the label everything went wrong; lee promised to keep us, but after all we didn't want to stay and the new boss at candlelight didn't want us too so we finished this contact both in a way.

Let us discuss the second work of yours, the “Fragments” CD. I bet
you know that there's some kind of weird thing with the way you entitled some of the songs...

- well, long time ago...let me remember ;) - the album is divided into so-called fragments and non-fragments - frags are labelled with roman numbers and the others with normal titles. that's the strange thing about it. i would say that the album had two sides - the fragmental and the non-fragmental side - all frags were so different in their topics that we decided to split this up leave them as they were with the note that they were only fragments of our whole work and not a "real" concept with a straight direction.

I may be mistaken, however it seems to me that if there's any concept behind DAWN OF DREAMS, it should mostly deal with Nature. Am I right?

- i can speak only for myself in this case. i'm not really a friend of humanity and the way all things happen, so i better deal with nature topics in my lyrics. to me this way of expressing my feeling is much more poetic than writing something about towns, technique...

What's the sense in using drummachine on both albums? Couldn't you find suitable drummer or what?

- hmmm, let me tell you that we have a drummer now lended from the polish gothic band UNDISH who will record the new album EIDOLON with us. you have to know that the kind of music we play is not really liked by most people who listen to harder music in austria. and if there is a drummer who likes it he already has a band - otherwise he wouldn't have put his cash into a drumkit - and every drummer we met didn't want to have two bands running. the explanation is quite simple if you see the realistic situation.

Both albums by DAWN OF DREAMS were spawned at Zero Point Studio, right? Ok. Perhaps, you know that there's some kind of "theory" regarding this point and the principal idea is: changing studios each time you record anything, you only gain by it, first of all, improving musically, since new recording place affects you in a refreshing way. What about that?

- ha, we chose zero point studio cause it was first of all not far away from us and second it was the only studio in tyrol which recorded rock and metal instead of folk music! in the mean time the studio does not exist cause there were not enough bands which could afford recording there. and why we didn't take a different one? well, we once asked candlelight about a studio in england and the wanted us to go to the one where ETERNE recorded their 2nd album, but they were a lame company which couldn't get their thigs right in time.

Ralph Chris, Sebastian Jan and Mark Martin… Sounds weird. I mean, I know that “Goralik” stands for your second name, however “Jan” is placed instead of this (at least, that's what I discovered looking through “Amber” CD's inlay). Any explanations?

- Goralik is my surname and Jan my 2nd name. the explanation is a strange need of being different than others. why Samoth and not Thomas?!

Once you've told me that you have one more band besides DAWN OF DREAMS, kinda grindcore… I'd like to know more on this subject.

- haha!!! yeah! STABLE STENCH is our unknown step child or sthg like that. strange, awful lyrics but great grind-core mixed with death and a bit of punk. sthg like MOTORHEAD meet with DISGUST, CARCASS and MORBID ANGEL for 15 beers. we recorded a CD at our mini studio "the return of the splatterheads" and it's just fucking great... if you don't treat it too seriously ;) - anyone who likes it can contact us at <dawnofdreams@gmx.at> or the adress in the DAWN OF DREAMS-booklet and send us 10 U$D to get this stuff.

Do you know anything regarding Russia? What is your attitude to the country of mine as well as it's people? Any Russian bands you've heard lately?

- hmm, a bit since i study english and russian-translator. i want to go there once, maybe i will have to anyway for a scholarship my granny was from omsk so i'm 1/4th russian too. and i often have to translate russian newspaper articeles at the moment. Russian bands? of course ROSSOMAHAAR cause of you and STONEHENGE, the other names i don't remember. frankly i didn't buy any cds in the last time or read any magazines so i'm out of time.

Any comments on relations between Russians and Austrians? How do you, sons of Osterreich, regard us? Furthermore, what's most strange, Austria is the only country in Europe which spawns lots of metal acts who contrive to compose their lyrics in Russian!

- i remember that we once had a talk about the austrian bands using russian lyrics but i have no idea where this comes from. and i never realized a special view on the russian people in austria. most people in austria know where to find russia on the map - so...not that bad ;---)

As far as I know, you have almost neo-nazi government over there at the moment…

- hmm, better no comment.
