DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY
was involved in?
- We self financed and released our own full length CD entitled "Prelude To Apocalypse" in 2000 and is available by sending $13.00 U.S. $15.00 world (includes shipping) cash or money order made out to DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY 1150 Foster Ave., South Plainfield, N.J. 07080 USA. Also we just self released a new CD which is our WOMB / D.O.M. split CD consisting of our older doom / sludge project from '95 WOMB which is 5-songs originally recorded in '95 but never got released until now!! WOMB was comprized of me - vocals / bass, Ronny Deo - bass, and Jim Roe - drums. Note me and Ronny only played bass guitar on WOMB for the ultimate in low end!!!! The second half of the CD is our '98 D.O.M. 3-song promo that was sold out last year! So we figured it would be cool to release the WOMB, and the D.O.M. 3-song promo together!! The WOMB / D.O.M. split CD is available for $10.00 U.S., $12.00 world (includes shipping) to the same address! As of the 8th of October 2000 we (D.O.M.) played our last show at CBGB's, N.Y.C. and has since been disband!
Why did you decide to part your ways with John McEntee and INCANTATION?
- Me, Ronny and Jim all left INCANTATION for pretty much the same reasons! John M. was a very hard person to work with, He was keeping necassary information from us along with band funds. Lack of communication with John was also a factor, and he was just not trustworthy!! WOMB was formed after I had left INCANTATION in '94 and D.O.M. started in '98!
“Prelude
To Apocalypse” has been put out independently, right? What forced to come
up with a self-released CD?
- We wanted to do it ourselves! I had learned alot about the buisness part of a band being signed to Relapse Records while in INCANTATION and being fucked over!! So we felt it was alot safer to do on our own! We had some offers from lables but they were not sufficiant enough!
Stylistically, DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY could be described as a bit sludgy yet incredibly brutal death metal. What has influenced you to play the kind of music you play? Isn’t it an intention to be reckoned to a particular genre?
- Well, we all have been playing death metal since the late 80's or at least I have, and when Me, Ronny and Jim get together our style just flows out of us like with INCANTATION, To us its like a cemistry. The bands chemistry is very important to its sound! And when you start going around and changing members all the time the sound gets comprimised like with INCANTATION now!
Do you aim to be original, either musically or lyrically?
- Both I would say!
Aren’t you planning to diversify DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY’s musical canvas a bit, perhaps adding few “alien” elements and stuff?
- With our release "Prelude to Apocalypse" I did somthing a little different but brutal by talking on the song "Prelude To Absolution" and I thought it came out pretty cool. It was new for me but it was very effective I thought! I would like to do more of that in the future perhaps with the reformation of WOMB!
Why haven’t the lyrics been printed in the booklet? Judging by the song titles, I suppose that they’re hopefully no less exciting than music…
- The lyrics arent there because of the budget we had to do the album (remember we payed to do it out of our own pockets!) with! If more fans want to see the lyrics I will probably post them on our Web site! Or when we repress "Prelude.." we will have the lyrics in the cover! We will see!
Did you finish University or any other kind of educational institute? If you’ve once stopped your activities with DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY, whom would you be in your 40ties and 50ties?
- I had graduated High school, but I now Drive a garbage truck for a living and I'm a Union worker, so I make pretty good money! As for D.O.M.'s style of music. I will probably keep plying extream music until death!!!
Education undoubtedly is a good weapon when it’s used for the right cause, however; what’s your opinion on the today’s technology? Isn’t it developing in a too rapid way?
- Yes! People are being replaced by machines! And alot of people are loosing there jobs aver the machines which is fucked up!! Human labor by far is better than machine labor!!! In the future there will be no need for the human race whatsoever!!!!
What’s
your opinion on emotional matters and their place in the metal scene? Don’t
you think that metalheads’ image is too goddamn rough? They’d never expose
any kind of emotional let-downs, y’know. Besides that, metal zines mostly
feature exclusively music-oriented questions; don’t you think that all
those guys out there should use their brains instead of only listening
to music?
- Sure, there are alot of stupid people into metal!!! Especially the people that just listen to metal and nothing else! They are very stuborn minded and don't now shit! You can listen to different types of music that is just as brutal as death metal, like dark / ambient / trance / militant/ some techno / doom, just sick and different stuff! You just have to look! I think the death metal scene today in general is shit! To many bands trying to be like someone or something y'know! It's just a bunch of rehashed shit! There are some exceptions out there like CORRUPTED, ABSCESS, THE RAVENOUS, IMMOLATION, EVOKEN, etc.
Do you know anything regarding Russia? Any metal bands coming from the country of mine you’ve heard lately?
- Not really, I wish I did though! I have to confess, I'm not keeping up with alot of the scene! I remember the band GORKY PARK!
Sorry man, but
that seems to be all for now. Is there anything you’re
willing to add?
- Thanks alot for the intie. And for anyone
that needs info on D.O.M. or WOMB you can E-mail me at: TWOCOUNT@BELLATLANTIC.NET
Thanks Kai!
O.K.
Take it easy,
Craig Pillard,
