BRUTALITY
"Screams Of Anguish" (1993)
Nuclear Blast Records
rating: 5,5 of 6
Dammit, why must I review the CD they came up with back in 1993, instead of pleasuring myself with listening to BRUTALITY A.D. 2001?! Actually, I don't even know if this band still exists… I hope so, anyway; since "Screams Of Anguish" (let me repeat myself once again - "released eight (!) years ago") beats most of the so-called "death metal" works which are being put out nowadays. "These Walls Shall Be Your Grave" (the opening title), "Exposed To The Elements" and "Crushed", as well as a couple of instrumental tunes, "Sympathy" and "Spirit World", appear as my faves off this piece, however it doesn't mean that other tunes appear of NO interest. "Screams Of Anguish" is a huge death metal highlight: innovative, memorable, impressive, versatile, intriguing and fascinating. Fairly original as well, by the way. If you want any comparisons, let me recall early works by MORBID ANGEL - but this is still just an unfair comparison, you see. They don't (didn't?) have to come up with a self-reproach or whatever alike, since this CD proves to be a fascinating piece of top-notch death metal. (Herr Stalhammar)
