How would you describe the art of DOOM yourself? It seems to be almost impossible to me, since the work you made your debut with (i.e. “Eternity”) combined undoubtedly multiple sound layers…

- I call this progressive gothic heavy-death with elements of industrial. But in point of fact I think it’s going out of my musical predilections both with my life experience that have been reflecting on my creativity. Actually I can be fond of any musical performance from Russian pop muthafukers DEMO or the serious thing - the choral music to NAPALM DEATH or DIMMU BORGIR. I can be inspired of any thing. I mean music itself & nothing else ( not musicians’ image, ideology & other different shit). For me music itself is the most important thing of all things. So I always wanted & now want to play the music consisting of many musical styles. So there’s no need to reckon my music in any musical genre.

As it seems like you’ve executed the whole album solely yourself, I wonder what kind of musical training you had? When have you started to study playing various instruments and how much time it taken you to become the kind of musician you are at the moment?

- For about 9 years ago I had concentrated myself on playing drums. But together with my drums I always played a little guitar & keyboards while my skill & creating were growing. I have no any musical education. All I can play I have learned without a teachers. Now if I have a free time & possibility I’d be happy to play some another instruments. The main reason I do everything myself from song-writing to song-recording is that I trust only my taste in doing anything, because I think I’ll do the best thing if I listen only what my mind tells me.

I bet, it’s somewhat difficult to arrange live performances being a one-man band…

- You know, not so. Specially for live concerts I have my band consisting of 3 men: second guitarist Death, bass-man & back-vocalist Kruger & I, on guitar & singing, all other sound is made by programmed sequencing machine. It needs to believe that there always be found musicians who will like your ideas & help you to carry it to masses. Our future plans are to replace the sequencer with musicians.

As far as I know, “Eternity” was brought forth the light by Mordor Records, almost an unknown label, thus providing rather weak promotion. Didn’t you ever try to get (at least a bit) more profitable deal with the record company which could supply you with better treatment? I mean, DOOM definitely deserves more, and it would be incredibly vexing if you band ceases into oblivion to the same circumstances which already buried (figuratively speaking, of course) plenty of tremendous Russian acts…

- Yeah , MORDOR RECORDS is only one who has interested in us. We thank them for all & we hope we’ll deal something good together. We tried to reach some record companies but with no results.

“Fuck Internet”…??? Hmm… This is the assertion I’ve found inside the “Eternity’s” layout. Please, give me some explanations…

- Fuck Internet - in these two words there is a global meaning concentrated. The fact is that for the first time I had loaded myself with dismal & gloomy thoughts about the world progress. I had considered Internet as one of the madness achievements of nowadays, as a part of social & industrial revolutionary progress that’ll bring us to regress. The future with Internet communications is empty streets while people sitting in their boxes, staring at monitors & nothing more, but cold grey void silence around & the movings of fingers pressing computer keyboard buttons. In a word - The Matrix absorbed all. And one another aspect yet - in economical plan. There’s no need to sell anything which can be taken through Internet. Many investors becoming bankrupts, losing their commodity markets. As effect - the growth of unemployment. And other social diseases. So Fuck Internet - is the same thing as Fuck Progress. But I shall not put these words on my layouts anymore. I’ll buy myself a computer, register my e-mail & put my brain in Internet as all progressive people do & no more any gloomy thoughts.

What are your personal favorites off “Eternity”?

- They are always fluctuating. Though however - MINDFUCKERS, THE ROOT OF ALL EVILS, BLOODY SHIT, ONE FOREVER.

Where have you taken that painting, the one used for coverart? The illustration on “Eternity’s” cover is fantastic.

- It was just chosen from many pictures proposed to me by one man. The illustration is not so fantastic as You think. I would tell it’s very substantial, maybe a little mystic. Let me to explain some my views about it. The planet pictured on cover is symbolizing a human beginning, a man, a man’s destiny, in general, it is DOOM. And the cosmic space above with star distance is from where every man comes & returns to, ETERNITY, every spirit’s home. That’s to say these are the symbols of two opposite substances - A Soul & The Absolute, The DOOM & The ETERNITY.

Let me take a quotation from “Song Of Prostration And Introversion”, or more likely, one of the parts it’s comprised of: “Me is VOID to fill with nothing, Me is mistake being not taken away, A foreign body in midst developed, Falsity in linen of truth”… I’ve found these words pretty anxious and equivocal. As well as somehow full of frustration and bereavement (the same goes for all the other lyrics of yours as well)… What is the cause for such an attitude?

- Everything is simple. In general all of my lyrics are formed on my life emotional experience. All that is going through my inner world reflects on my songs lyrical side. “The Song Of Prostration & Introversion” is a dismal mood story based on moral suffering feelings of unshared love.

It seems like you’re fond of works by William Blake, right? How would you explain the fact that together with Baudelaire he appears as one of the most popular poets when it comes to metal scene worldwide? Let’s recall ULVER who even set the whole album to his “Marriage Of Heaven And Hell”…

- Yeah , I’m fond of William Blake & also of some other English romanticist’s poetry. Maybe sometimes I shall compose something using some of the other romantic lyrics. I think romanticism in a whole is very convenient for such extraordinarily sentimental melodies as gothic metal music.

If I’m not mistaken, “The Root Of All Evils” text was taken from the christian bible… Why so? Do you adhere yourself to the christian faith? Furthermore, do you really consider the lust for money to be the greatest evil…?

- Right, THE ROOT OF ALL EVILS lyrics are taken from the Christian Bible. As to my opinion the love of money enrichment is the one of the human sins that brings some men to finished madness. The fact is that I find the truth in Buddhistic ideology with some Christian influences. Actually I think the theme of faith is very personal for each human being. In addition I acknowledge the necessity in plurality of man’s outlooks & diversity of the spirit ways people choose. Everybody has the right to believe in somewhat. If all men can or must believe in one thing the life on Earth would be tedious.

What is your view on the reality we surrounded with? Couldn’t all of us be just a someone’s wicked dream…? How many realities may dwell in one’s mind…?

- I’m not a subjective idealist, I don’t think everything is based on human mind. But I assume we could be just a someone’s wicked dream. Our world is a someone’s dream , & this someone’s life is another more greater someone’s dream & so on endlessly. Our Gods believe in their own Gods, while our Gods’ Gods believe in their own ones & so on. And what about reality. Let me remember phrase from NAILBOMB’s song - Hate This Reality .

Are you acquainted with so-called “theory of opposites”? “Search your light in my darkness, for my darkness is your light. And that which is opposite, is opposite to itself. Conceive your visionary evil, and I will grant you the good…” Do you have anything to say on this subject?

- I agree with it & vote it. “All the white is part of all the black & all the black is part of all the white...” it’s from one of my new compositions called ZEROKARMA.

Is there anything else you’d like to share us with?

- FUCK MILITARISM, FUCK RACISM, FUCK ANTI-SEMITISM and fuck all the muthafukin’ shit that keeps us & them down.
DOOM RULES FOREVER & EVER!
Once again thanx for all.
Cheers!
Truly, Alex
