MACBETH are one of those bands that came with the big gothic metal wave from Italy. MACBETH prove with their new output „Romantic Tragedy´s Crescendo“ that they are at least as good as the scene-leaders from Italy, INNER SHRINE, however with a, well, more positive message. MACBETH´s Fabricio gave in this interview some interesting informations on the band, and although we had some communication difficulties it got to be an interesting interview.

There seems to be a gothic-metal-boom in Italy, please tell me something about that.

- Well, there is certainly a boom here, but it isn´t so bad. There aren´t too many bands, and the leaders of the scene are still INNER SHRINE.

Why did you decide to call your band the way you did? „Macbeth“ is a famous book by William Shakespeare, as far I can rebember...

- Yes, that´s right, we called the band after the book. Everybody who has read the book can imagine our music as the perfect music for it.

I hear very much of THEATRE OF TRAGEDY in your debut (and I don't! - ED). What were your musical influences?

- Every each of us has different faves, so I can´t tell you one band that influenced MACBETH the most. Our keyboard-player, Alessandro, who wrote the most melodies likes dark wave and industrial. There are just far too much bands I could name...

Compared with other goth-metal bands MACBETH sound kinda positive; the most other bands try to make an sad, depressive atmosphere. Where is this „happy“ sound come from?

- I guess, it´s our female singer, Kristina – she´s not singing like a sad soul like Liv of THEATRE OF TRAGEDY. But also all the music has been done in way that let´s the sun come through grey clouds...  I mean, we´ve already got this death metal voice, and Kristina is something like a contrast to it. No, our intention isn´t to sound depressive. Kristina was visiting a singing school for three years, you know...

Did you already have some gigs where you promoted the CD?

- No, but we´ll have some. And all of them will be in Italy. We´ll play in Milano and Torino sometime this autumn. I don´t know if we´re going to have gigs in the rest of Europe as well...

Is your line-up now stable? In the past you had some troubles concerning this...

- Yeah, some time ago we had bestial problems! But, now we´ve got the best line-up possible, and I hope it will stay this way...

Ok, tell me something about the lyrics...

- Our lyrics are full of romance and tragedy, as well as poetry. You can find everything on our cover; a white sheet with roses, this stands for romance. On the other hand, you´ve got the girl´s hand and all the blood. This represents tragedy. Crescendo is the way we play our music. You see, everything comes together...!

How did you come to work with the Audioglobe label?

- We had one demo, and directly after Audioglobe got it we got the contract! I´m happy with the work they´re doing. It´s just too bad that we don´t see the guys there so often – we´re all living in different cities...

Well, are you getting enough attention now?

- Yesterday nobody knew anything about MACBETH. But, as you can see, now I´m giving interviews! That says enough!

So it does! I can only reccomend everybody to check out MACBETH‘s new album, it´s an experience!
