Hail… Why did you choose such a bandname, "Prophet"? What is your prophetic message that you carry within your musical creations?
Aleksi: The name was Hisu's idea, and as we found "Prophet" it sounded sober. To me it's just a name. There is no prophetic message in our songs (not that i know of), my message comes from my lyrics that are sad and solitude and as i said earlier in radio we sing songs about melancholy which are made in low spirit.
Sami: It's
short and sober...
Hisu: It's
short and sober...
What do
you think regarding Biblical prophecies as well as those of
Nostradamus
or any other prophets? Do they relate to you in any way?
Aleksi: I hate eveyrhing thats related to bible. Not that i show it in anyway. Nowdays it's "fool" to be satanic in Finland becouse teenagers dont care about the background of it. They just like to wear black clothes and scream SATAN! And screw you today's papers who tell people that Satanism is same as worshiping satan.
Sami: I think
I like prophets but they don't relate us.
Hisu: Hmmm...
No, they don't relate.
Your music
sounds very similar to one Russian metal band called MAGIC DUMPSTERS.
Are you in a way familiar with the Russian metal scene? What do you think
of it? How would you identify the style you're playing in?
Aleksi: We
really couldn't translate that name. I have heard of STONEHENGE, RAKOTH...
Never heard their music. I got a letter from a Russian "fan?" who told
that he dont have much money to send but he really likes our music. Don't
really know if he had ever even heard us and was he just a brown nose to
get free music. Sent him our 2nd demo-"Gone" but got it back couse it was
"impossible to deliver it to him"?!. Theres few PROPHET's CDs on sale in
Saint Petersburg. Don't know has the Metal got popularity in your country...
Once i got to Moscow and had long hair and a girl said to her mother that
"can you see that girl" :) . It was easier to be a Metalheart in Finland
in 80's. As said our style is Melancholic metal.
Sami: Good
melodic metal having elements of metal from 80's and 90's.
Hisu: I'm
not familiar with Russian metal scene. I like Metal thats made with talent
and our melodic metal is it.
That
demo CD you have sent us looks very much like a home-made product and the
same goes for the sound quality. Could you tell me how you have got
the record together? (Because it is too good for a demo). Could you give
some advice to certain starting musicians who are ready to record a demo,
but haven't got a record contract or money enough?
Aleksi: I draw a line between demo and "real" CD when it's not a CDR. Before we got to make "Gone" demo 98 we had arranged to reserve 6 days of studio time for "Miles Away" CD 99. As we waited that recording session we made "Gone" demo to hear the songs whole entirety. We hade one concert in Helsinki before we got to make "Gone" demo. And it really helped us to pick the main elements of our music to "Miles Away". I dont say that "Miles Away" would be in prose to one style only, but the main things are emphasized. Few guitar melodies are hidden. Also the screams are mixed to be low and soft to take care that it's nice for more people, now they are deeper. We really are trying to win popularity in it. In studio was easy to notice that everyone had very strong thoughts how we should do these songs. I am glad that I got to keep the sob and screams in it , i try to make you depressed discouraged thats my part in this band. We must thank the sound observer / mixer / recorder Jukka Puurula on the studio for great work and patience and the sound observation in "Cd-linja" where who took care of Mastering and duplicating.
Aleksi's Advice: Don't go to studio if you haven't had time to rehersal and stimulate and style your songs. There you don't have time to it becouse it costs money. Also if you go to studio were you have liable and good recorder / mixer and you don?t know your own songs (or dont have brand new guitar strings and drum heads) it is severe thing to him to record you so you know what it does to your sounds...
Hisu & Sami: PROPHET didn't have much money either then (when we made "Miles Away"). But this was something we had to do. We got the money by working.
Sami's advice:
Always be 100% of sure that you know what you do. Have positive attitude
when you there and you will get best results. And thats worth buying.
As you
are the Prophets - how do you see the future of mankind?
Aleksi: I feel the imminence of war. Donno when its coming but it will. So many fucking OLD idiots taking care of our things, making decisions of us, the youth gone wild. It's impossible to try live in peace and try to make unions like EU. Seems that many of us hate foreign people unless they make a techno songs or rap or is american, that really is the public opinion. And still Finland advance the opinion that we welcome people here and we can live with other people. DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT`S COVER. I'm past caring about these things.
Sami: Music
made by machines will destroy our minds.
Hisu: Screw
you industrial dickheads!!!
Have you ever been in... erh... kinda "alcoholic oblivion"? What are your impressions of such a (truly exciting!) experience?! Have you got any interesting stories to tell...?
Aleksi: I
LOVE BOOZE! I drink for free till i can?t see. Last time i went to best
nightclubs in Helsinki. Before that i took heaps of gin and beer. Coolest
night in times. We did not walk at all, had
taxi the
whole time and when we got back home we sigh and talked about how cool
80 really was and listened KATATONIA, ANATHEMA, OZZY & W.A.S.P. I WAS
SO DRUNK!
Aleksi's
favourite drink: Jagermeister and cola.
Sami: I LOVE
BOOZE TOO! especially when it's free and then i go to "oblivion". Bad experiences
was AC/DC concert when I passed out and KISS consert when i fainted.
Hisu: A couple
of times in week and last time i was knocked out by some big guy, generally
i take the count out only by BOOZE!
What do you think of dreams? Do they tell the future or reflect the past? What is their meaning? Tell me of the strangest dream you have ever had…
Aleksi: I
see dreams every night some see them never. They reflect the past and work
your mind. It's like "scandisk" of the day. You got to have it at the end
of the day it works like booze you got to have it at the end of the week.
Strangest dream that i saw was last summer at music-"camp". (it really
isn't camp, it's luxury, Marshall speakers and good players) I hadn't seen
my girl friend in week and i got to sleep again and saw a dream where my
girlfriend was in bed with other girl... only bad that they didn't allow
me to join :) then i woke up.
Sami: I see
dreams. I often see this dream where i wake up, but it's only a dream.
And it goes on and on...
Hisu: I see
dreams too. This dream i had where i am just getting PUSSY, and then i
wake in scream "GO TO SCHOOL!".
There is a version that human history as we know it is complete bullshit, and really all that happened was much, much shorter. The whole human history occured during past 400 years. What do you think about that point of view? Did you come across it before?
Aleksi: That
could be true. I really havent studied History in years and memories of
that are very bad because the teacher was a complite asshole to me. I have
thought things about man going in to the moon and not sure is that true,
it can be a great movie trick. I really don't even know does some part
of the world exist becouse i never went there.
Sami: History
teatcher was really DILDO! That's why i don't know about history.
Hisu: History
is history and now is now...
Do you
think there is a superior power somewhere out there? What do you think
of the human fate and human place in the abyss of space and time?
Aleksi: Not in god or satan. I belive in good and bad. Sometimes good is bad and bad is good. I belive my self altough sometimes i have bad self-confidence. I belive that eventually everything will collapse. I still am good person to my self, i try to make decisions that i know are RIGHT. It has came obsession to me, that will close a million door for me. Human Fate... It's personal to everyone. I don't think that fate is foregone conclusion. It is what you make it. Abyss of the space go forever on.
Sami: I belive
there's life in other galaxies too. And great powers too.
Hisu: We
(i mean human) are superior power. We find the aliens before they find
us... I believe so.
What is the best way for you to have fun, relax and feel fucking great? Your advice?
Aleksi:
GET DRUNK!,
GET LAID!,
GET LOST!
I have the best time all by myself playing my guitar.
Sami: I like life.
Hisu: Fucking is great & i have allways great time.
As always, your last words… and prophecies…
Aleksi:
Get a W.A.S.P.
CD titled "Last Command" if you can't swallow it, bite harder soon you'll
eat it ravenously.
