ABSURD, EDELWEISS and SAMHAIN

live at U2 (Moscow), October 2000 a.t.b.b.

This one definitely wasn't the best gig I've managed to attend last year, therefore let me dare to be rather short this time.
I guess, all of you (at least, those who're residing in Russia) know what U2 is all about, hence no comments neither regarding the sound, nor the club itself.
If I'm not mistaken, EDELWEISS were the first ones to occupy the stage... Erh, it wasn't really nice. Actually, these guys made me laugh my bowels out (the same goes for Orkkh, I was having a couple of beers with, while EDELWEISS worthlessly attempted to capture our attention). Just try to imagine the following: thin and seemingly handicapped ;) singer, wearing some kind of a KKK cassock, screaming out ridiculously written lyrics, what's most disgusting, the ones written in Russia. They'd better attend "Spokoynoy nochi, malishy!" (Russian TV program for 5-8 years old kids), at least their participation in "Spokoynoy..." could strike as much more appropriate. The music itself appeared as some kind of a crappy thrash / death (?) metal, crappy mostly because of two girls on guitars who kept on tuning their guitars all the way through their performance (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Ok, ABSURD were the next one, at least if (again) I'm not mistaken.
Well, the sound was utter shit, perhaps due to the fact this kind of music shouldn't be performed in such a club (huge "thank you" definitely goes out to the sound engineer was the incredibly messy sound), however it wasn't really a problem, since even a deaf one would immediately get high once giving this band a listen. Technical, Swedish-school influenced, black / death metal, a bit similar to GATES OF ISHTAR and HYPOCRISY ("Abducted"). All in all, I really enjoyed their performance.
Ok, and what do we have now? SAMHAIN, an act led by someone formerly taking part in CATHARSIS. So what the hell was that? Tiny, even a bit incomprehensible doom / death / gothic / whatsoever with a fat female singer attempting to sound operatic. She failed, anyway. And so did the band, actually...
Perhaps there was someone else to play that evening, but sorry, I was too drunk and disappointed to recall anything else.
