WEISTIVAL #6

on 19th of August 2000 a.t.b.b.,
Mol (Belgium)

This festival is located on the parking place of the club Tydee in the city of Mol. There were almost 200 visitors. It's not that much but there were also 2 other underground festivals and some gigs in the small country. It must be said that all the bands had a very good sound, the PA men did a very good job.
I saw the METALLICA cover band SCARRED MIND (B) last winter and I still know that I couldn't write any good word about them. But something is changed in the band. The drummer and bassplayer were replaced and because of that the band played a lot faster and more tight. Also the singer did it very good (maybe he took some lessons). The covers were played very well and sounded good. Especially the song "Sad But True" sounded very hard.
MAGELLAN DREAM (B) did a great heavy metal gig. It is the first time that I saw them and they definitely impressed me. Their demo sound's a bit soft, but this is not live. They started with a very slow but hard (BLACK SABBATH-alike) intro for the first song. Their music is midtempo with some slow parts incorporated. As less melody as possible but played very tight and hard the whole time. It sounded
very hard and great. A pity that there was only a few people interested in the band. Also, they did a MOTORHEAD cover with a guest singer, and they did it much better than MOTORHEAD did (!).
Waldrock fest. earlier this summer.
The heavy metalband WITSCHMELLER PURSUIVANT (B) is a bit more melodic but also a kind of a show band. The singer was dressed in black witch clothes and was taking the attention of the public the complete show. Their music is influenced by the almighty IRON MAIDEN. The music is very variated from slow more melodic stuff till midtempo and fast intermezzo's with some nice solo's in it. The music sounds always brutal and catchy. This is best heavymetal band of Belgium of the new generation.
PATRIARCH (B) is also a heavy metal band. But they are doing it in a more brutal way. Not much melody, just a brutal piece of heavy metal straight in your face. The good sound gave them the change to do a great gig. The band exist for many years and you can feel it when they are on stage, no shit just playing.
IN-QUEST (B) is one of the best deathmetal bands of Belgium and they proved it again. It was also the first gig with their new guitar player Douglas (ex-LOCUSTA). The guy did it excellent and their sometimes melancholic and hypnotic sounding death was great.
I can be short about PRIMORDIAL (SWE) and FOREVER AFTER (NL) these 2 bands bored me completely. PRIMORDIAL (by the way, how much "primordials" do we have in the world? Many, I assume - ED) sounded as it was played without any feeling and the dreamy music of FOREVER AFTER with the female vocals said me nothing.
DEAD HEAD (NL) is an old Holland deathmetal band and you could hear it. Hard, brutal and straight in you face deathmetal, with the usual variation in it and some solo's. The songs are in good balance and it sounded good (they couldn't play louder than 90 DB, the neighbourhood called the cops).
That's all for now, folks.
See you later.
