IMPALER
"One Nation Under Ground"
Root'o'Evil Records
rating: 4 of 6
Man, this is incredible, but United States
also have their own KOROL' & SCHUT (KiSH)! At least, these acts definitely
are the ones to be compared due to almost similar approach to music, and
especially lyrics. Wanna know what the hell is it stylistically? Well,
I'd define it as "grave rock", which sounds much more like a grim sort
of punk, y'know. The lyrics are dark though humorous, however I definitely
prefer KiSH… when it comes to poetry (and I wouldn't say that IMPALER's
dudes managed to come up with a POETRY. No, these are lyrics only - nothing
less, nothing more). Furthermore, I don't like vocals. Screamy and lacking
any sense. "Bill Lindsey - lead vomitist"? Well, not a vocalist and far
from being a singer, that's for sure. Honestly speaking, I liked this CD
somehow… and despite all the drawbacks it possesses (remember, that these
are "drawbacks" only in my own, quite subjective, view), "One Nation Under
Ground" is a piece to be noticed. Didn't expect to see this one signed
to a black metal label. (Herr Stalhammar)
MOTORHEAD
"We Are Motorhead"
Steamhammer
rating: 5 of 6
MOTORHEAD. Do I really have to say anything
else? Like it always happens with Lemmy and co., they've managed to come
up with yet another excellent piece of metal rock'n'roll, and, without
any doubts, they don't have any rivals. Are you going to say, you disagree?
I hope the answer is "no". (Herr Stalhammar)
PSYCHOPUNCH
"Bursting Out Of Chucky's Town"
White Jazz Records
rating: 4,5 of 6
An excellent piece of punk rock. Sounds
quite refreshing, especially howadays, when most of bands out there aren't
capable of doing anything except for worthlessly cloning each other. No
primitivism, but raw power. No boredom, but a breath of fresh air. No kids
claiming to be musicians, with wretched attempt of creating a worthy musical
canvas on the outcome. The only thing I could possibly cavil at, goes for
the fact, all songs sound pretty similar to each other. Nevertheless, as
a matter of fact, "Bursting…" definitely is a stunning work. (Herr Stalhammar)
SEX MUSEUM
"Sonic"
Locomotive Music
rating: 4 of 6
Band with such a moniker can't be a worthless
one, don't you think so? Fortunately, my expectations were fully justified
this time. SEX MUSEUM deliver rather strange blend of a cross between hard
rock and heavy metal, adding space-alike sounds as well as industrialized
synth lines to reach the goal in creating an unorthodox work. Like 21st
century hard rock, you see. This is definitely not for everybody, but the
open-minded people will dig it. (Herr Stalhammar)
