Answers supplied by: Leon Morrison (guitars)

The first question is the most obvious one: two years have passed since "Purulent Decomposition's" release date, therefore I wonder when are you finally going to come up with the second CD?

- We have 6 new songs right now, i can't say when we will be releasing our new album, as soon as we have enough material we will record, and then it will be up to REPULSE how soon it gets released, we have never been a band that pumps out song after song, we are really picky about our songs, we work hard on them and take time to make them the best they can be, and to give them their own identity, we never just throw a bunch of songs together and hope they turn out good.

At the moment, Repulse Records is one of the most well known record companies dealing exclusively with death metal acts, however it strikes as they're not that good when it comes to promotional campaigns. What's your opinion? Are there any contract's paragraphs they failed to exercise?

- Well, I think that they are definitely a good label, they do not push us and advertise us as much as we would like, especially here in the states, but I think that they do a good job in Europe, when we did our tour in Europe, we found a lot of magazines with REPULSE ads and shit like that, and we almost never see that here. I don't think that REPULSE has failed to live up to the contract, I just don't think that they have the same capabilities as a bigger label with more money.

The rumors say that you're about to unleash old and unreleased material through Repulse; is that correct? Why are you going to re-issue old material instead of coming up with a new recording?

- Well, its not unreleased material, and yes, we are going to re-release our SEVERE CARNAL BUTCHERY demo on CD, with new artwork and bonus live stuff, and we are not releasing old stuff instead of new stuff, we will try to release our new CD a soon as possible after SEVERE CARNAL BUTCHERY is released. We haven't sold copies of SCB in years, and we still get tons of requests for it, we have been wanting to re-release it for a long time, I think right now is the perfect time, because we haven't released anything in 2 years but our new CD should come out right after SCB if everything works out the way we
want.

Gore grind... Isn't it too boring to deliver this kind of music nowadays, when there're seemingly thousands of bands playing the same kind of stuff? Furthermore, do you agree with those who consider death metal and grind very limited genres? There aren't too many possibilities to experiment with musical forms being trapped within the bounds of these styles, don't you think?

- SEPSISM has been around for 10 years, we have always been a DEATHMETAL band with GRIND and HARDCORE influences, we have always had gore / death / murder / violence lyrics. to us that's what DEATHMETAL is. we are a DEATHMETAL band, this is the style we play and its the style we have always played, i really don't give a shit about current trends in music. or how many "GOREGRIND" bands there are now, it doesn't change the integrity of what we do. And I think that as a musician, the DEATHMETAL and GRIND genres are only as limited as you allow them to be, this is the music that we love to play so we don't feel "trapped" within any bounds. we have always experimented and tried different things with our music, but we never move drastically away from the roots of our music.

What would you name as the principle difference between SEPSISM from other death bands?

- I think that our wide variety of influences has always given us a unique sound and style and we concentrate on writing good heavy songs with good hooks and grooves, and we make sure every song has its own identity, and that the song is catchy and memorable. I think a lot of bands forget to do this because they are just trying to be the most "brutal" band on earth.

There's a lot of problems with criminality in US, isn't it? Actually, it seems like your country has one of the highest levels of corruption, drug-dealing and stuff like that if comparing to European States. Have you ever endured any kind of problems with the law? Or, perhaps, criminal authorities? What about writing a song dealing with this matter, huh?

- Hahahaha....yeah the US if all fucked up ....hahaha..well i have had my fair share of harassment from the fucking cops, but nothing serious, i stay out of trouble, and actually a lot of our lyrics are based on theses kind of subjects, reality based things, the violence, murder and death that really takes place all around us. you will see this on our next CD, on PURULENT DECOMPOSITION there were a lot of old songs, songs that we redid from our first and second demos, the lyrics are very, splattergore, and were written when we were young, we have really started to pay more attention to our lyrics, and make them more meaningful, wile still being brutal and sick.

Joe Petagno definitely succeeded in crafting an amazing artwork for
"Purulent Decomposition"! Are you going to keep on collaborating with this painter?

- Yeah we are very happy with the artwork that he did and we are happy with the layout of the CD as well, i don't know if we will be using him it the future or not, the artwork for the re-release of SEVERE CARNAL BUTCHERY was done by a local guy we know out here, for our next album we have been looking at a couple of other artist and their work, and going over some concepts for the cover, it too early to say what we will be doing as far as a cover goes and who we will be using to do it.

Proceeding with this subject. What color and which one among human sensations do you consider most fitting SEPSISM's concept?

- Red, because it is one of the colors most associated with death and violence, and aggressiveness because I think our music is very aggressive and brings forth this emotion in the listener.

"Surgical Atrocity", "Pathological Disfigurement", "Shredded In Cannibalistic Violence"... Yuck! Didn't you ever think of changing the subjects your lyrics deal with?

- No!!!!! we are a fucking DEATHMETAL band, that's what DEATHMETAL is about, extreme brutal over the top music, and lyrics to match. Death, murder, and violence are reality and these are what we write about.

If I'm not mistaken, two of you are of Latin-American origin, and hence the questions arises: can you explain why there's such a big amount of Latinos involved in a US' death metal scene?

- No, I really can't, METAL in general, is a very emotional and energy filled form of music, and DEATHMETAL is the one of the extremes of the METAL genre, it's aggressive and angry, maybe the Latinos in the US, just appreciate it more and understand and relate to it more.

The world becomes more and more hi-tech nowadays, and that makes me
confused or even frightened a bit. Let's take PC, for instance. I'm strongly convinced that all the networks will become controlled by various patterns worldwide, such as FBI in United States. At least, it's not only my paranoia, but a bitter inference based on mere logic. They've already acted similar to the above-mentioned way, when it comes to both US and Russia... And I guess the first try won't ever be the last one, right? Furthermore, various online chats and ICQ somehow erase our direct intercourse. A certain person who fears to be told to f*** off in real life doesn't have to fear anything or anyone chatting online. Being "saved" from immediate action, these individuals become withdrawn with time. What is your opinion on the subjects I've mentioned above? I guess, this topic should be of interest to you...

- I too believe that the governments of the world will take control of the Internet and oversee and control all that takes place on it one day, im sure it will be a long struggle to fight this. and as far as a person that says things online that they would never say in person, i think they are just cowards, the Internet allows people to lie and say anything to anyone without any real repercussions and that is a problem because people create rummers and bullshit that quickly gets spread throughout the online metal community this is one of the things that bothers me about the Internet. but on the other hand the Internet is a very powerful tool in promoting your band or zine or whatever worldwide and allows you to talk to and contact many people at once all over the world. so i guess you just have to take the bad with the good.

What do you know (and think) regarding Russia? Any metal bands coming from our lands you've heard lately?

- Honestly I haven't heard much about the Russian metal scene the only band that I have heard of recently is FUNERAL HOME (perhaps, MENTAL home? - ED) and I haven't had a chance to hear them yet, I hope that the scene becomes strong and gets more exposure to the rest of the world I think the Internet will definitely help this. METAL!!!!!!!!!!

I believe, that's enough for the first time. Would you like to add
anything?

- Of course I would like to thank you for this interview and the opportunity to get some exposure to the Russian scene, I would just like to add that anyone interested in SEPSISM can check us out at WWW.DEATHMETAL.COM/SEPSISM or E-MAIL ME AT SEPSISM1@AOL.COM
